How fire damper can save your life?

Fire dampers are key passive fire protection products that help prevent the rapid and dangerous spread of fire and smoke through building ducts that pass through fire and smoke barriers. They slow down the progress of the fire by giving people enough time to safely evacuate the building during the fire. As with any safety device, they must be regularly tested and maintained to ensure that they will operate and perform their function effectively.

KRS offer the following services:

(We do not replace fire dampers.)

Completing a comprehensive report

Lack of maintenance, improper installation and neglect of maintenance can lead to problems such as rusty, decaying or dusty and dirty parts that can cause fire dampers to fail when a fire hazard occurs.

In the event of a fire, smoke and flames can quickly pass through the ducts, making the already dangerous situation much worse, causing more damage to the building, spreading the fire to escape routes and endangering lives, which is why fire dampers are so important.

There is now a legal requirement for annual testing of fire dampers and this should not be postponed or ignored. Testing fire dampers is just as important as regularly testing fire alarms to ensure safety and prepare buildings for fire.

What to expect on our fire damper maintenance and testing visits:

1

An inventory is made of all fire dampers in the building and their location.

2

All fire dampers are individually checked for signs of corrosion and damage.

3

Each one is activated and physically "dropped" to test effectiveness.

4

Channels and guides are cleaned.

5

Advice is provided on any damage that requires repair or replacement.

6

The shock absorbers are reset.

7

A comprehensive report is produced detailing all locations, maintenance, agreed repairs and replacements, as well as any recommendations and detailed exception reports for any failures.

There are many factors that can cause fire dampers to fail. Some of the most common causes are obstructions and blockages, corrosion, poor assembly, broken springs, and dirt and debris affecting the seals. Just one damper failure can cause smoke and fire to spread catastrophically throughout the building, leading to loss of property, damage to rooms and, more importantly, harm or even death to those inside. That is why it is so important to ensure that these key security systems are inspected, tested, inspected and properly maintained to help keep people and property safe.
